5mg Felimazole Tablet for Cats - per Tablet
114716
5mg Felimazole is indicated for both the stabilisation of feline hyperthyroidism prior to surgical thyroidectomy and for the long-term treatment of feline hyperthyroidism.
Hyperthyroidism in cats is a prevalent condition, especially among older cats, characterised by an overactive thyroid gland. Hyperthyroidism can lead to health issues, including significant weight loss, increased appetite, hypertension, and a rapid heart rate. Without intervention, affected cats may experience deteriorated organ function, leading to a diminished quality of life.
Felimazole 5mg for Cats works by regulating the thyroid gland's hormone production. The active ingredient, Thiamazole, directly inhibits the synthesis of thyroid hormones, thus restoring hormonal balance. Felimazole is not a cure for hyperthyroidism but serves as a highly effective means of managing the condition, offering cats a chance at a healthier, more comfortable life.

Felimazole Dosage and administration
For oral administration only. For the stabilisation of feline hyperthyroidism prior to surgical removal of the thyroid gland one 2.5 mg tablet morning and evening. This should ensure euthyroidism within 3 weeks in most cases. For long-term treatment of hyperthyroidism the starting dose should be 2.5 mg twice daily. After 3 weeks the dose should be titrated to effect according to the serum total T4. Dose adjustments should be made by increments of 2.5 mg. Wherever possible the total daily dose should be divided into two and administered morning and evening. Felimazole tablets should not be split. The aim should be to achieve the lowest possible dose rate. If for reasons of compliance once a day dosing with a 5 mg tablet of Felimazole is preferable then this is acceptable although reduced efficacy can be expected compared to a twice daily regime. For long-term treatment of hyperthyroidism the animal should be treated for life. The dose administered must not exceed 20 mg/day. Advice on correct administration: Follow the dosing instructions given by your veterinary surgeon. Haematology biochemistry and serum total T4 should be assessed by your veterinary surgeon before initiating treatment and after 3 weeks 6 weeks 10 weeks 20 weeks and thereafter every 3 months and the dose changed as necessary. If more than 10 mg per day is required animals should be monitored particularly carefully.
