Is Wet or Dry Food better for your Pet?
Is Wet Food or Dry Food Better for Your Pet?
When it comes to your pet, you will usually want to offer them the very best. There has been a long time debate on whether wet food or dry food was better for them, but the key is to take a look at the advantages of both and then choosing the one that is going to be best for your pet.
While some people just pick up the dry food without taking a second look at anything else because it is less expensive, it may be worth your while to compare the two.
The Advantages of Dry Food
First, we will take a closer look at dry food and it’s advantages. The truth is, there are a lot of different types of dry food out there - some that are much better nutritionally than others. The cheaper food that you find in your local pet supply store will usually not offer your pet the proper nutrition that they need.
So, what are the advantages of using dry food? It is definitely a lot more convenient than wet food. You can put it in their food bowl and leave it be. You can even put it into an automatic feeder, which means that you don’t have to worry about replenishing their food bowl very often. Some people choose dry food for this very reason. The only problem is that this can open the door to obesity if you aren’t careful, because some pets will continue to eat even after they are full. Dry food is also generally considered by Vets to be better for your pet's teeth.
Dry food can be less expensive than wet food. The reason behind this is because many of the dry foods are made up of mostly fillers, and don’t offer as much nutritional value for its weight. This is how companies can get away with charging less for it. If you are going to choose dry food, you will want to make sure that it has a carbohydrate or a protein listed first on the ingredients list, just to make sure that you are getting something that will be nutritional for your pet.
The Advantages of Wet Food
Now, we will take a closer look at wet food and its advantages. First, you will find that it is more digestible than many of the other dry foods on the market. This is because it isn’t hard and grainy like most of the dry foods. The problem that people run into is that wet food doesn’t offer the ability to chew, which is something that dogs need especially.
If using wet food, make sure that your dog has some rawhide bones to chew on. Older dogs and cats will also benefit from wet food, because it is easier on their teeth. It is also soft and easy to eat, which means that it will be more comfortable for them to eat.
Which is Better?
It seems that both wet and dry food can be great for your pet, but you have to make sure that you buy a premium food - not just food that you think looks or sounds great. You must make sure that it offers your pet the nutritional value that they need at the stage of life they are at e.g. Puppy, Adult, Senior etc. You can do this by reading the labels. You should always avoid pet food that contains fillers, soy or white rice. Fillers offer no nutritional value, and soy can lead to allergic reactions in your pet. One factor to always keep in mind is that your pet deserves the best, and you shouldn’t base the food that you buy for them solely on price - because this could ultimately be detrimental to their health.
