Rilexine Tablets for oral administration containing cephalexin (as cephalexin monohydrate PhEur) in three strengths: Rilexine 75 containing 75mg cephalexin Rilexine 300 containing 300mg cephalexin Rilexine 600 containing 600mg cephalexin
Rilexine is a bactericidal antibiotic of the cephalosporin family obtained by hemi-synthesis of the 7 amino-cephalosporanic nucleus. Rilexine acts by inhibiting the nucleopeptide synthesis of the bacterial wall. As a result bacterial destruction occurs. Rilexine is not inactivated by -lactamases produced by the Gram positive bacteria and which normally affect penicillins. After oral administration Rilexine is absorbed through the intestinal barrier. The plasma peak is observed very quickly (T max. 1.5). Therapeutic skin levels are obtained within 2 hours. Cephalexin is eliminated as an active form mainly by the urinary route (85%). Cephalexin is effective against a wide range of Gram positive and Gram negative bacteria including: Staphylococci Streptococcus spp. Pneumococci E. Coli Klebslella spp and Salmonella spp.
Rilexine is used for the treatment of the following infections caused by bacteria sensitive to cephalexin: Infections of the urinary tract in cats and dogs (such as nephritis and cystitis). Cutaneous infections (pyoderma) in dogs including skin fold pyoderma impetigo folliculitis furunculosis and cellulitis.
